Sarah Morris
Beijing, 2008
35 mm, 84:47
Beijing focuses on the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, one of the biggest international media events of the day. Sarah Morris’s film is a surrealistic portrait of an authoritarian state in the age of turbo-capitalism, at a moment when the International Olympic Committee had effectively taken over control of the Chinese capital. Beijing depicts a hitherto closed country at a moment of seemingly theatrical openness.
