The estate of Anne Loch

In the late 1970s, when artists started to return to figurative painting, their works were largely characterised by vigorous, spontaneous, expressive brushstrokes. It is for this reason that this movement is also known as the “Neue Wilde” (New Wild Ones) or “Neo-Expressionism”. The themes of these artworks frequently reference social reality. Anne Loch’s works, on the other hand, are carefully planned and designed. She also differs from her peers in terms of content: “But it comforts me to know that I’m not painting a survey of my surroundings, not painting a social critique, not painting a utopia, not painting a sociological study, which is what all the sculptures are doing these days. I just paint strokes and how they relate to each other.”
