In her final years, Anne Loch produced almost exclusively monochrome paintings – in stark contrast to her busy, almost overwhelming early landscape and flower works. The minimal brushstrokes and negative space create an abstract effect. The tension between representation and abstraction is a common thread throughout Loch’s oeuvre. Despite the obvious figurative nature of her work, the artist said of her paintings: “This is abstract painting […].”
